Each year since 2015, the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation has held a Tower Climb at One World Observatory at One World Trade Center in New York. One thousand people make their way up the steps of the building that symbolizes strength and hope, and the resiliency and invincibility of the American spirit.
The event celebrates the life and sacrifice of FDNY Captain Billy Burke. After responding to the attacks at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, Captain Burke stayed behind to save others on the 27th floor of the north tower, while commanding other firefighters to get out of the building. He was already aware that the south tower had collapsed. Captain Burke lost his life moments later. His selflessness is legendary among those in his profession.
This year representing Carpet One Floor & Home were Theresa Fisher, Scott Wheeler and all the way from Grants Pass, Oregon, Stephanie Lippert from Lippert's Carpet One Floor & Home.
Similar events take place around the country including Baltimore, MD on June 16th where Carpet One Floor & Home installer Roland Thompson and his son climbed to the top of the Canton Crossing Tower! Roland is an integral part of Carpet One Floor & Home’s Building for America’s Bravest program, and has volunteered his time to install the flooring in numerous homes for catastrophically injured veterans across the country.
